What are shaders?

In the gaming and emulation world, shaders are used to alter the look of digital image outputs. The emulation software Retroarch that is included in Batocera linux supports many different shader formats and countless of different shaders are available to let your retro games look differently. Common usecases are: upscaling shaders, CRT/scanline shaders, shaders that smooth out the 80s/90s pixelated games to have them look like a HD game.

What is a Batocera shaderset?

While Retroarch users can select from countless options to tweak a game and it’s emulation and look, Batocera linux creates a usability-focused approach to bring back the games from your childhood in a very easy and non-technical way.

One of these cool features are shadersets. They are pre-arranged setups that users can select from the UI (Emulation Station) and things start to fly by magic.
